“Metal Stories” exhibition at the City Museum, within the framework of the 80 years of AIM Rosario
On Thursday, April 20, the exhibition "Stories of metal, from the workshop to the city (1939-1962)" was inaugurated at the City Museum (2361 Oroño Boulevard), with free entry.
The exhibition is focused on the history of the development of the metallurgical industry in Rosario, in the framework of the 80 years of the Association of Metallurgical Industrialists Rosario (AIM).
With the neighborhood and the Acindar factory as protagonists, the proposal offers a historical tour through the decades of the '40s, '50s and '60s, and seeks to vindicate the local and regional industry, its history and the determining role they had and they have for the profile of the city that we know today. The exhibition can be visited until August, from Wednesday to Friday from 12 to 6 p.m., Fridays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The secretary ofCulture and Education of the city of Rosario, Dante Taparelli, commented: “I am greatly interested in this exhibition, it reminds me a lot of my childhood. My father had an industrial lathe, so the huge mountains of shavings, the grinders and the noise of the factory are part of the landscapes of my childhood. From that moment I was aware of the importance of metallurgy, I consider it an honor that an exhibition is held in the City Museum that has this objective, that of showing what heavy industry was in Rosario. For me, metallurgy is the ABC of the industry, it is very important to show the relevance it has for the entire city.”
Silvia Simonassi was invited to participate as curator of the exhibition due to her research on issues related to the industry and the relationships between metallurgical workers and businessmen in Rosario between the 1930s and thehe end of the last civil-military dictatorship.
With these bases he said: “This exhibition constitutes a personal challenge which is to be able to transmit some aspects of my research to a broader public and with another language. The fundamental purpose of the exhibition is to show how the strength of the industry and the identity of various neighborhoods of the city with metal work, was founded on stories of workers - even adolescents as is the case of the apprentices - who with Their efforts, with their daily work and conquering rights, made the expansion of the industry possible.”
For his part, Roberto Cristiá, president of AIM Rosario, thanked the initiative to carry out this exhibition and highlighted that the Rosario metallurgical industry is one of the best examples of the transformation of the city since its inception.port activity to other types of actions and that, thanks to their own efforts, gave rise to many opportunities: "The exhibition will be a good opportunity to appreciate the power and capacity of the industrialists (owners and workers) of Rosario, what they did and they continue to carry out,” argued Cristiá.
It should be noted that the exhibition "Stories of metal, from the workshop to the city (1939-1962)" also has a room with specific material from the case study of the Acindar neighborhood curated by Pamela Gerosa.
