COMPETITIVENESS OF THE NATIONAL METALLURGICAL SECTOR AND OVERPRICES OF RAW MATERIALS
COMMUNICATION FROM AIM ROSARIO
COMPETITIVENESS OF THE NATIONAL METALLURGICAL SECTOR AND OVERPRICES OF RAW MATERIALS
From the Association of Metallurgical Industrialists of Rosario we raise the need to find solutions to a challenge that transversally affects the entire industry.
Rosario, April 6, 2024.- The Association of Metallurgical Industrialists of Rosario expresses its concern about the sustained and considerable overprice of raw materials used in the metallurgical sector.
This situation results in a high operating cost and, therefore, a high price in the intermediate or final product. The result is a clear disadvantage of this industry inparticular −and of the Argentine industry in general, since the metallurgical industry is the mother of industries− in the face of external competition.
According to our surveys, we have identified that in our country:
the price of steel exceeds between 30% and 50% that of neighboring countries;
As for plastics, it rises between 70 and 80% more;
and for aluminum, it is between 60% and 70% higher.
This price disparity seriously compromises the competitiveness of the Argentine industry, both locally and internationally, putting at risk the sustainability of the sector and the generation of employment, remembering that the metalworking industry is a strong generator of formal employment, thisble and quality. Ultimately, the economic stability of our country is compromised.
Faced with this situation, at AIM Rosario we maintain that it is imperative to adopt strategic measures and effective policies that allow us to face this challenge directly, in order to ensure the sustainable development of our industry. p>
Always within the framework of a constructive dialogue that includes companies, workers, intermediate entities, legislators and officials, we initially propose the following actions:
1. “Support for raw material suppliers”:Implement actions that allow suppliers to optimize their operating and production costs, which would lead to a review and adjustment of prices more in line with market conditions.
2. “Flexible import policies”:Make import policies more flexible for those raw materials that are key in the manufacturing of goods at competitive prices to access international markets. Likewise, we request the elimination of the Country Tax on the import of industrial inputs.

Aware that the synergy between the public and private sectors is essential to overcome this challenge, we make ourselves available to collaborate in the development and implementation of these and other initiatives that contribute to the strengthening of our industry.
We appreciate the joint approach of all the actors involved in this critical issue, to find solutions that not only contribute to generating a more equitable scenario.uitative for the industry, but a direct benefit for the entire society.
